Accreditation & Biological Practitioners

Become A Biological Dentist

Accreditation by the SAABP certifies to the professional community and the general public that you have been trained and tested in the comprehensive application of biological dentistry, integrative principles of health; detoxification and healing - including current methods for safe removal of dental amalgam; its biological alternatives and the intricate link between systemic, gut and oral health. SAABP accreditation establishes you at the forefront of biological dentistry and demonstrates your commitment to furthering your knowledge of the oral health’s indisputable role in general health.

The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs,
but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.

- Thomas Edison

Why Is SAABP Accreditation Important?

South Africa does not have an accreditation system like many other first world countries around the world. Having a medical or dental degree does not automatically imply knowledge or experience in practicing biological medicine or dentistry. Establishing a practitioner who has these core values is usually by word of mouth. Now more than ever, taking action to promote your understanding of biological dentistry and medicine is essential. In 2013, over 100 countries signed a United Nations mercury treaty known as the Minamata Convention on Mercury, part of which includes a global phase-down of dental amalgam and mercury-infested vaccinations. Practitioners need to be knowledgeable and trained in its safe removal from both the mouth and the body; as well as biological alternatives.   What this means is that there is a growing demand for “qualified” or “specially trained” biological dentists and integrative doctors - because patients and other medical professionals are purposefully seeking out practitioners to aid them. By furthering your education and training with SAABP’s accreditation process, you will confidently be able to assist your patients to achieve a healthier state of being.

What Are The Requirements For SAABP Listing And Accreditation?

General member listing on the SAABP site implies that the practitioner is either an existing integrated medical doctor with training in functional or integrated medicine with an understanding of heavy metal detoxification; the link between oral and systemic health and has a biological approach to treatment OR a dental practitioner who has SAABP’s online basic modules. These modules are also available to the public who further want to understand the core principles of biological dentistry or medicine. To view/apply to the accreditation module, click here contact us to learn more about the benefits to becoming a member.

SMR member on the SAABP site implies that the practitioner has the necessary on-line training on mercury including its effects on the body and its detoxification; safe amalgam removal; hands-on training; a full guide to transforming his dental surgery into a biological studio. It requires him/her to have done a practical patient case presentation of a basic amalgam replacement case, from examination to completion with focus on proper patient protection for optimal safety from unnecessary exposure; dentist and staff protection, including installation of an amalgam separator and heavy metal air purifier for proper environmental preservation. A SAFE MERCURY REMOVAL member on the SAABP site implies that the practitioner has the necessary training (either through SAABP’s online training or previously through IAOMT) on mercury, including its effects on the body and its detoxification; safe mercury amalgam removal modeled on IAOMT’S SMART protocol; a thorough understanding of alternative biological restoration materials; a full guide to transforming his dental surgery into a biological studio.

SAABP’s modules include power point presentations, scientific articles and practical tips to practicing as a biological practitioner. Once set up, you will need to take a video (a cell phone will do the trick) and send it to us showing you doing an amalgam removal case using the SAFE MERCURY REMOVAL TECHNIQUE ,modeled on IAOMT’s SMART TECHNIQUE. You will also need to complete the modules (SEE BELOW) on The Truth about Mercury: its Effects on the Body and Detoxification of Heavy metals from the body . When these two requirements have been met, we can list you as an accredited SAFE MERCURY REMOVAL  dentist on our site and market you to the public and fellow integrative doctors as that. Let us know how we can assist you to take these necessary steps.

SAABP has created SAFE MERCURY REMOVAL dental kits, heavy metal air purifiers and detox kits and has made it easy for dentists to obtain all the necessary gear required to protect themselves and their patients from mercury toxicity and facilitate its safe removal from the body.

There can no longer be excuses for the placement or unsafe removal of amalgam; or its impact on our environment – SAABP provides all the necessary tools to facilitate an effortless transition into safer biological practices which will leave a legacy rather than toxicity as their mark.

SAABP Empowers Practitioners And the Public In their Search For Knowledge And Guidance

It is integral for the practitioner practicing biological medicine/dentistry to have a full understanding of the above principles and sciences in order to provide the most comprehensive treatment options for the patient...

It is a true understanding that every organ system is interconnected and its health vital in overall health. It is a thorough understanding of the gut system and its intimate relationship to the immune system and the brain:

  • The Enteric nervous system lining the gut contains 100 million neurons, which is more than the spinal cord or peripheral nervous system.

  • 90% of serotonin receptors and 50% of dopamine receptors are in the gut – thus the cross-talk between the gut and the brain has multiple effects on moods, depression, anxieties, affect, motivation, decision making and higher brain.

  • The Bacterial colonies residing in your gut play key roles in the development of the brain, behavioural and emotional issues: from depression to ADHD; autism to schizophrenia. They also play a role in leaky gut, allergies, metabolic issues, diabetes, weight gain and hormonal balance.

  • Thus the role of maintaining gut health and the role of nutrition, form pivotal roles in overall health.

This not only takes a very scientific mind, but also a naturally gifted intuitive practitioner who has a true innate desire to assist his/her fellow human being.

In using the term Biological Dentistry, we are not attempting to stake out a new specialty for dentistry but rather to describe a philosophy that can apply to all facets of dental practice and to health care in general: Always seek the safest, least toxic way to accomplish the mission of treatment, all the goals of modern dentistry, and do it while treading as lightly as possible on the patient’s biological terrain. A more biocompatible approach to oral health is the hallmark of biological dentistry. We operate according to the belief system that your teeth are an integral part of your body and hence your overall health, and recognize that your oral and dental health can have a major influence on other disease processes in your body.  It is an understanding that the mouth and the body are intimately connected; that the mouth is the opening of the gut system, which has been identified as the second brain and integral to overall health. More than 90% of all systemic diseases have oral manifestations, meaning that the dentist can play an integral role in early detection and appropriate referral.
